This week starts the month of April, also known as National Stress Awareness month! Did you know that the number one cause of stress is financial trouble? No matter your age or occupation, you have probably felt the heat from financial stress at some point. Here are a few tips to use this month to help cope with financial anxiety:
- Keep a positive attitude. Save a little each day and be proud about the steps you are taking to live a financially savvy life.
- Find and use a budget worksheet. Most major financial issues boil down to over-spending. A budget worksheet (where you identify where you are spending your money by tracking expenses for the month) can help reveal some areas where you can easily and painlessly cut back.
- Ask for support from friends and family. If you are stuck in pattern of spending (you go out for dinner with friends every Friday and Saturday, for instance), work together to find alternatives. Sometimes their support and encouraging words are all you need!
- Reduce your debt. Save a little more this month than usual this month by cutting down on your small spends. Even an extra $20 can make a difference!
These tips may help you with stress relating directly to finances, but remember that to reduce additional stress you should try to do three things in good balance. You should eat healthy, exercise frequently and get a good night’s sleep. These three things will allow you to get a better grasp on your anxiety and keep up your health!
